Wed. 15.04 - Session 1: The Foundation – Song Form and Structure
Song structure is such an underrated subject. We’ll start here and get an overview of common song forms and discuss how structure shape the listener’s experience. We’ll analyse examples from different genres and look at how form is used deliberately.

Wed. 22.04 - Session 2: Melodic Thinking & Prosody
We’ll explore how melody and lyrics work together, and how to create natural prosody so words sit comfortably in the music. I’ll introduce you to melodic tools such as intervals, motifs, and phrase shaping.

Wed. 29.04 - Session 3: Harmony for Singers and Songwriters
Harmony doesn’t need to be intimidating. We’ll break down the logic of chord progressions in a way that’s intuitive for singers—using your ears, your voice, and your emotional instincts. Learn how to build progressions, understand how they affect your vocal lines, how to choose chords for a melody — and how to understand the harmony of songs you already love.

Wed. 06.05 - Session 4: Rhythm and Groove
In this session we’ll look at rhythm as a songwriting and performance tool: phrasing, feel, groove, rhythmic values, accents, and syncopation. We’ll break down rhythmic patterns (pop vs. soul vs. jazz) and explore rhythmic variation in vocal phrases, both individually and in group work.

Wed. 13.05 - Session 5: Lyrics and Storytelling
Now it’s time for lyrics. I’ll teach you a range of tools you can use to write lyrics that communicate clearly and emotionally. We’ll work with prosody, imagery, narrative shape, and hook thinking and have a look at how some of the masters of songwriting, craft their lyrics.

Wed. 20.05 - Session 6: Performance, Expression, and Integration feat. Emilia Martensson
How do you bring the elements of songwriting (melody, harmony, rhythm, lyrics and form) to life in performance? A short introduction to basic vocal-technical considerations (breath, support, resonance, phrasing) and performance analysis. This session will feature renowned vocalist Emilia Martensson (Beyond Vocals) and you’ll work with a short performance of your own material (or a cover) and receive constructive feedback from the both of us and the group.

Course includes unlimited feedback on email, whatsapp or messenger over the duration of the course.
